Rosh Chodesh Elul in Beit Bnei Rachel: The Blessings Came to Me

Rosh Chodesh Elul in Beit Bnei Rachel: The Blessings Came to MeBy Evelyn Haies, President Rachel’s Children Reclamation Foundation (1995-2011) and Beit Bnei Rachel
I t used to be every Tuesday that the bus from Efrat came to Kever Rachel and we learned in Beit Bnei Rachel, the RCRF majority owned property just a few feet past Kever Rachel in the Rachel Tomb Walled Complex, but now it is only on each Rosh Chodesh that the Efrat group learns in the memory of my dear friend Sara Blaustein HYD
It was this Tuesday Rosh Chodesh Elul that the shiur was given by Sara Jo Ben-Zvi .It was a talk on Nechemia and problems within the walls. This month’s trip was sponsored by Bryna and Chaim Astor on the occasion of their 24th wedding anniversary. Mazal Tov!
I set the room up for the evening event with HaRav Benjamin Levene. I left and returned to finish setting up before the final Summer Learning Session that included Rabbi Chaim Wasserman, Rabbi Yitzchak Breitowitz, Rabbi Yosef Klausner, Rabbi Efraim Sprecher to find my belongings misplaced and that another sink that was there in the morning was removed without permission of the Bnei Rachel Corp of which I am founder and president being the sole funding purchaser of the first building.. I was then told it was taken back after 8 years from the gifter by a phone call with the worker and the Rosh Yeshiva who moved into the building uninvited and remains without a lease and doing construction without permission. I checked the basement and found it there. Some wonderful men about to daven in Rachel’s Tomb helped bring it up and put it back.. There was a verbal battle and the sink was re-installed. However, the worker was still there working without permission when the evening groups left.
HaRav Benyamin Levene spoke on “Rachel Imeinu and the Rosh Hoshana Prophecy.” The talk on stories of his grandfather and the tzaddakim of his day relayed a very important message. Tzaddakim are simple and one should always respect and care for one’s fellow man. Ima Rachel cries, sacrifices, has empathy and emunah. Her midos carry her children above the decadence, deceptions and will bring us up from the falls. I recalled that I read Tehillim 24 on my first visit to Kever Rachel after the purchase and I understood it was because of the purchase that David HaMelech conquered Yerusahlayim. Re -reading Tehillim #24 I saw that it was emphasized that there is no possession without truth, honesty, righteousness and good deeds. Possession is a function of merit.
Last and very significant was a visit by HaRav Moshe Wolfson, shlita for a tish. About 200 followers of this great rabbi enjoyed a talk in Yiddish. Yerushalmi kugel, rugelah and other refreshments were served . The women and children were behind the mechitza made by Rabbi Moshe Levi for my .yeshiva Bnei Rachel several years ago. The men ended by praying tehillim and singing shmiros. .I was blessed that all my work for Rachel Imeinu and Beit Bnei Rachel should be with emunah, advancement, rewards and free from conflict. I had been told to get a blessing because of the misdeeds from which I and the American companies were suffering by those who called me a “good ange” and admitted they “conned” me and the American companies. They made no monetary investment and called me a donor for their benefit and not owner as was written in the contract and validated by the money trail..
The wonderful beginning and the ending of ELUL in Beit Bnei Rachel were blemished by those working without rights against the owners and developers. It was such a joy to continue to remember lovely, vibrant, generous, giving, loving Sara Blaustein HYD (murdered on the way) with the women of Efrat. Would that she were still here. It was such a joy to be with HaRav Benjamin Levene again whose roots are deep with Jerusalem history and the stories of his grandfather’s visits to Kever Rachel before it was occupied by the Jordanians and after it was reclaimed in 1967, He expressed the ups and downs of Elul and blessed that I overcome the challenges and continue this holy work for Rachel Imeinu. He was present when I donated a Sefer Torah in 1998 on the wide open streets in front of Rachel’s Tomb that got Kever Rachel open 24 hours and inspired so many visitors and saved the Egged Bus #163. I presented him with a painting by Malky Grunwald who displayed that unity and derech eretz are what bring the Guela. This painting is on display in the Rachel’s Children Reclamation Foundation Museum of Jewish Aliyah © that just hosted a Biblical Art Exhibit by Ellen Lapidus Stern. Malky Grunwald, my granddaughter had the first Bas Mitzvah at Beit Bnei Rachel. It suffered having been the first, but just this August at age sixteen her mess up was rectified. She was on the NCSY JOLT program visiting the camps her family survived . She is third generation Holocaust Survivior. Four years later she was celebrating her birthday in Beit Bnei Rachel with her contemporaries in rectification of a Bas Mitzvah that was blemished by complications but still most memorable and the inaugurator of so many more simchas in our beautiful Reception Center.. This birthday was so joyous because it was shared and a surprise. It was also a statement for Jewish steadfastness and survival in the merit of Ima Rachel’s tears.
HaRav Moshe Wolfson shlita of Borough Park, Brooklyn spoke of the positives of Elul and our necessity to keep on the derech. Truth, responsibility, good deeds are some of the ingredients that will bring rectification.and redemption. I sincerely thank those for thanking me. Let us thank Hashem for all our successes. Rachel’s Children Reclamation Foundation is a foundation I formed to save Kever Rachel and to present Ima Rachel as the Jewish Mother par excellence who will show us how to return to our Torah and holy land borders, by learning, sharing and caring. We can reclaim our inheritance by acting according to Hashem’s Pathways of Torah. This is the time we a warned of the curses from going off the derech and advised of the blessings of being righteous.. Let us know only goodness and enjoy the Redemption this Rosh Hoshana as we read the Haftorah of Yirmiahu promising Rachel Imeinu that her children will return to their borders.

Press Release and Summer 2011 Continues

Press Release: Rachel’s Children Reclamation Foundation’s Lecture and Supperette series of the Summer 2011/5771 continues to be an educating and inspiring attraction for English speakers. Evelyn Haies, president and founder of RCRF and majority owner of Beit Bnei Rachel told her amazing story of saving Kever Rachel by writing contests, petitions and non-stop activities. The 163 bus only had four riders and by handing out flyers Evelyn increased the ridership 800%. Before Kever Rachel was encaged. Evelyn, by inviting Rabbis to speak on the bus, the buses filled and overflowed. The dedication of the RCRF Sefer Torah on Rosh Chodesh Tammuz 1998 brought over 3,000 and since then Kever Rachel is open 24 hours with a recent exception after 10:30pm now for a few hours. When no one would buy the land, Evelyn was the Nachshon ben Aminadav who put down all the money to purchase Beit Bnei Rachel. It was on Haftorah Behar, when Yirmiyhu, in the pit, and in the midst of a war, bought land. Evelyn made the payment to buy this land just feet from Rachel’s Tomb for RCRF while they were shooting at Gilo. Two other adjoining buildings were purchased with initial and closing funds of RCRF where RCRF is still majority owner and Evelyn is President and Trustee. Private investors shared in the purchase of the latter two properties
Rabbi Chaim Wasserman, President of the Young Israel at Heichal Shlomo, renowned teacher and author, gave an inspiring and informative speech on 19th century Religious Zionists, Rav Yehudah Alkalai (1708-1879) and Rav Zvi Hirsh Kalisher (1795-1874), both advocates and authors who ignited a Jewish nationalism movement sixty years before Theodore Herzl. It was a movement for the return to Torah Judaism together with the reclamation of Eretz Hachodesh. Rabbi Wasserman was presented with a print of the Artwork of 15 year old Malky Grunwald who expressed the deeper meaning of Rachel Imeinu with roots united and intertwined and branches spelling Derech Eretz. Without Unity and Derech Eretz there can be no V Shavu Banim L’Gvulum.
Rabbi Dr. Yosef Klausner gave two informative lectures on Rachel Imeinu, Ruth and Beis Lechem. We learned Rachel went ahead as she was expecting a second child. Benyamin was born on the way, on Derech Efrata, She gave life to the only tribe born in Israel proper. He explained how the Kingdom of David and Jewish leadership originated from Beis Lechem, Rachel, Boaz, Naomi and Ruth. He suggested Shlomo walked in the fields just south of Yerushalayim where his father David wrote the tehillim we say so passionately at Rachel’s Tomb.
Rabbi Efraim Sprecher, Dean of diaspora Yeshiva and Lecturer at the OU Israel Center gave a post 17th of Tammuz lecture on Anger Management. Because of anger and hate, the Jewish people went off the derech and suffered the wrath of Hashem. He presented the giving characters of Rachel Imeinu and Benyamin. Rachel gave her
right to be the bride of Yaakov to her sister Leah; Yonaton, descendant of Benyamin, gave his right of kingship to David. Both did not put themselves first but acted for the good of Klal Yisrael.
Rabbi Judge Yitzchak Breitowitz, a lecturer at Ohr Sameach and the OU Israel Center gave an inspiring Rosh Chodesh Av shiur. He spoke of the divisions within the Jewish community and the warring amongst themselves. He quoted Titus as saying, “I don’t have to destroy them because the Jews will destroy themselves.” He presented that there was nothing to be gained in discussing flaws of others and that Jews must fix themselves. He mentioned how Avraham Aveinu stood as a wall against corruption, yet he pleaded for the chance of teshuva for those off the derech; his tent was always open. Love, firmness, tolerance , respect and acceptance were ingredients for spiritual rejew-venation
The educational events continue with socialization while enjoying a healthy home made buffet of delights prepared mostly by Rochelle Eissenstat, the first on the third anniversary of the survival of her family from the bulldozer attack hammering and riding over her Mazda. She says it was definitely the hand of G-d which saved them because of their charity and respect for their parents. Her platters are so sumptuous and she is so generous to continue to host our appetites as we enrich as our minds. There is time afterwards for davening and tehillim.
RCRF is planning its Fall series. We need your help, ideas, donations, preparations. Everyone who attended recommends you bring at least one friend because the RCRF events in Beit Bnei Rachel in the Rachel Tomb Complex are extraordinary, educational and uplifting.
RCRF thanks everyone for participating. The rest of the schedule of evening programs via 5PM Egged #163 Bus and starting at 6PM is as follows:

RCRF5771/2011 Lecture and Supperette Series begins with great success

Press Release: Rachel’s Children Reclamation Foundation’s opening Lecture and Supperette of the Summer 2011/5771 series opened on a most high and inspiring note. Evelyn Haies, president and founder of RCRF and majority owner of Beit Bnei Rachel told her amazing story in a brightly lit room, surrounded by Biblical Art paintings of Ellen Lapidus Stern. As the third holiest site in Israel, Rachel’s Tomb was on the Oslo chopping block. Her Manhattan Beach neighbors had a meeting to support those who would suffer from Oslo and decided to sponsor a community. As ideas don’t always come into fruition, Evelyn actualized her good idea to twin with Kever Rachel. She wrote the song, “We are Rachel’s Children”

A Writing Contest connected Jewish children with the Rachels in their families, miracle and midos stories and with historical research of Rachel’s Tomb in Beis Lechem.
Viewing an Hachnossat Sefer Torah in her neighborhood, Evelyn thought, if people bought a letter in the Torah then the Sefer Torah would be theirs. If the Torah was in Kever Rachel, they would be very connected and concerned for Ima Rachel’s tomb. Evelyn asked the sofer the cost to write a Torah for Kever Rachel. She was told a discounted price of $25,000. Within weeks of this idea, Evelyn was approached by the accountant who had drawn up the application for the RCRF Tax Exempt Status. He said he usually doesn’t charge charities, but asked her if she would like to buy a raffle. Evelyn asked how much. He said $500. She asked if he had a cheaper raffle. He said he did not. She said, “then I guess I have to buy it.”Evelyn won the raffle; Split the Pot was $26,000, the cost of raffle, Sefer Torah and some towards expenses of a seudah in New York and another in Beis Lechem. Thousands attended the 1998 rosh Chodesh Tammuz event on the wide unwalled streets in front of Rachel’s Tomb. Because of the great showing, the Rabbi of Holy Sites, HaRav Shmuel Rabinowitz announced Kever Rachel, henceforth, to be opened 24 hours a day.

Tehillim Therapy #46
"Hashem is our Coach and our Koach”
by Evelyn Haies
(c)February 23, 2011
We live in a time of trouble, upheaval in our lives and our world
Mountains are weeping tears of hot lava and trees are uprooted and sucked into the sea.
The earth is scorched by lack of rain and forests are burned
Land is washed away in tsunamis and hurricanes,
Cities fall into cracks as the earth quakes, shaken and broken, burying that which it bore,
Rivers rise and cover the ground as high as rooftops
washing away all as they break higher than waves
and many do not escape
the reminders of the times of Noah, mis-guidings and evil doings

We live in a world of trouble, revolutions rage outlandishly in the streets against the outrageous
Evil empires are collapsing even with evil in the chants .
Dictators are banished by the masses they harassed.
Government buildings are fire bombed and chopped just as they chiseled at the Tomb of Joseph.
Hate the Jews, the scapegoat, is the mantra; but the hate is from deprivation
and the jealousy of the Jews
who express kindness and love,
the midos of Avraham and Rachel.

G-d is in the middle of the lashings and bashings,
the ravages of nature and mankind,
the savagery of misfits, the me-its, the made-offs.
The glory is of the Most High
as the world is swooning in the whirlwinds of doom.
He acted to create The Beginning
and now unleashes a painful Re-Awakening

G-d is Our Maker,
the Maker of disasters and desolation,
the Maker of war and peace
He is the Power to shield the earth and mankind
As we remember the givers -
Avraham, Yitzchak and Yaakov
Sarah, Rivka, Leah and Rachel,
Yosef and Moshe Rabbeinu
As we see the punishments of the fakers, takers, hackers, pirates,
Conquistadors, Crusaders, Inquisitors, Nazis, Jihadists,
a new day is dawning out of the turmoil on the ground and the human poundings and pounded.

Lashings and Bashing are everywhere like cycles of devil-potions, dissolutions;
and then there is silence, re-growth, solution:
appreciation that hate is not the answer,
never was in tune with civilization, the Loving Kind.
Can you hear the exulted music of the Alamos?
He has turned war into peace, swords into plowshares, bombs into blossoms
and there is rejoicing like Purim and nurturing like in the BaMidbar
and He is exalted among all nations.
Selah.

Purim Katan Celebrated in Beit Bnei Rachel.
By Evelyn Haies
Rachel’s Children Reclamation Foundation hosted refreshments including hamentashen at Beit Bnei Rachel, the RCRF majority owned Jewish property within the Rachel Tomb Walled Complex in Beis Lechem. Evelyn Haies, founder and president of RCRF and Bnei Rachel Corp spoke of her seventeen year mission to present Rachel Imeinu as the Jewish Mother par excellence who is a role model to make Bnei Rachel proud, reclaim her midos and their identity and also be role models for derech eretz. She named the street in front of her houses Derech Chaya Rachel because keeping the ways of our Matriarch Rachel is a life force. The roots of the past are the foundation of the future.
Rabbi Dr. Joseph C. Klausner emphasized Purim Katan as a small holiday which occurs early in Adar Aleph this being a leap year. It is explained as a lesson in concealing and revealing. Redemption is a spiraling process of praying, revealing the cover ups, taking off the masks that conceal truth, reestablishing Jewish identity, reacting in unity to the dangers and acting together for survival of the community, recognizing the anti-Semitic set ups and trusting in the chesed of Hashem, restoring the connection to Hashem, thanking Hashem.
RCRF will be hosting a Purim Shiur and Sueda on Sunday, March 20, in their large Reception Center in Beis Lechem, where Rachel Imeinu died “on the way” giving birth to Benjamin, ancestor of Mordechai and Esther. Please make your reservations early and be part of the simcha when our confusion leads to clarity, when what is behind the masks is revealed and we are on the derech, the pathways for blessings and simcha. Rabbi Ephraim Sprecher will be speaking on “Rachel Imeinu and Esther HaMalkah, Most Beloved Heroines in Jewish History”. This is the place to celebrate our becoming a nation, surviving and redeeming the promises with joy.
V’Shavu Banim l’gvulum.
